Composer’s Notes
These pieces are settings of four wonderful children’s poems by Arnold Lobel from his book Whiskers and Rhymes. They are available as separate octavos from Shawnee Press, formerly Mark Foster Music Company, distributed by Hal Leonard. I wrote them as a set for the 1996-97 Minnesota ACDA Elementary Honors Choir. While I prefer that they be performed as a set, they do work fine as individual pieces. Since being published in 1998, these four have been among the best sellers in Cora Scholz’s series with Mark Foster along with my other pieces in the series: The Pasture, The Five Little Chickens, Thy Holy Wings, Lizard Jazz, and Three Lullabies for Treble Voices and Harp.
