Composer’s Notes
Julefest consists of five carols from Scandinavia, including “I Am So Glad Each Christmas Eve,” “O Yule Full of Gladness,” and “Bright and Glorious is the Sky.” I was commissioned in 1987 to write this medley, the first of many projects Philip Brunelle has involved me with over the years. It was written for the chorus and orchestra of the Plymouth Music Series (now VocalEssence) in Minneapolis. The SATB parts are not difficult, while the orchestral parts are a bit more challenging. The exact instrumentation is 1101, 2000, percussion (one player), harp and strings.
