Composer’s Notes

I arranged this for my adult choir to sing on Easter Sunday 1999. It is a majestic setting of an early American Sacred Harp Tune (B.F White, 1844). The theme is resurrection, and the text speaks of rising to meet Jesus: “…when I hear the trumpet sound in that morning.” The instrumentation for the quintet is two trumpets (B-flat), horn, trombone, and tuba (or bass trombone). Both choral and brass parts are accessible to the average church musician.
