Composer’s Notes

This arrangement is part of the set Early American Songs, Set 2. The other pieces in the set are also available separately: Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, and Down by the Riverside.

Little David, play on your harp, Hallelu, hallelu,
Little David, play on your harp, Hallelu!

Little David was a shepherd boy;
He found smooth stones and he slung them with joy!

Little David grew to a mighty king,
But he missed those days with a stone in a sling.
