Composer’s Notes

Commissioned in honor of Bishop Jon V. Anderson on the 10th anniversary of his service to the Southwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the hymn was first introduced in worship at the Synod Assembly in June of 2013 at Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota.

The text by Christine Kallman is based on Philippians 2:1-11. The tune is named KENOSIS, in reference to Christ’s act of emptying himself.
