Composer’s Notes
I composed the Litany of Healing Prayers in July 2003 while on staff at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in the Cascade mountains of central Washington. I made some adaptations to the setting in 2004 for my daughter’s confirmation service at our congregation in Northfield, Minnesota. The litany is led by a cantor (or unison choir) with congregational responses to the same simple melody on the words “We pray for healing, Lord,” “We pray for courage, Lord” or “We humbly thank you, Lord.” Congregations may adapt the litany as desired, inserting prayers that are more specific to their purposes or to current events. The back page of the score includes instructions for use and suggestions for how to introduce it to your congregation. When you purchase a license, I will send two copies of the score for leader and accompanist, a bulletin insert (optional) and permission to reproduce the score as necessary. The litany may also lead directly into either Dear God (hymn version) or Dear God (anthem version) which serves as a further prayer for healing. (See the Litany score for instructions on combining the two pieces.)
